Brussels: The participants of a gathering in Brussels have paid rich tributes to the great Kashmiri martyrs Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru on their anniversary.
The event organized by the Kashmir Council EU was held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, which is also the European headquarters in which people from different walks of life participated and paid their respects to these two eminent sons of Kashmir.
On this occasion, Chairman of Kashmir Council Europe (EU) Ali Raza Syed paid tribute to these martyrs in strong words and said that Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru are the great sons of the land of Kashmir, the sacrifices of these martyrs will not go in vain.
He further said that these martyrs have provided light to the freedom movement of Kashmir like a candle.
Ali Raza Syed urged the Indian government to hand over the remains of Shaheed Maqbool Butt and Shaheed Afzal Gaur to their heirs in Occupied Kashmir so that they can perform the last rites of the martyrs according to their customs and bury them properly.
It should be noted that Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged in Tihar Jail in India on February 11, 1984, and his body was buried in the jail against the wishes of his heirs. After that, Kashmiri freedom fighter Muhammad Afzal Gaur was also hanged in the same Tihar Jail of India on February 9, 2013 and his body was buried there without the permission of his relatives.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed demanded the international community including the European Union to take strict notice of India’s brutal behavior and put pressure on New Delhi to hand over the bodies of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt Shaheed to their heirs.
He said that it is a cruel and inhumane act that after the execution of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru, their dead bodies have been imprisoned by India for many years. No civilized society in the world can adopt such cruel behavior.
Ali Raza Syed said that Afzal Guru was hanged on a false charge and similarly Maqbool Butt was given death sentence for Kashmir Freedom Movement.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU further said that Kashmiris have been suffering from Indian oppression for a long time and the Indian government has imposed black laws in Occupied Kashmir for this purpose.
Other participants of the event also condemned the Indian attitude and said that Kashmiris are struggling for their right to self-determination. India cannot suppress their movement for long.
They clarified that India cannot achieve its nefarious goals through executions and oppression. In any case, India should give Kashmiris their right to self-determination.
The speakers also demanded the lifting of restrictions in Occupied Kashmir, the release of political leaders and the prevention of extrajudicial killings.
Especially, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed appealed to the international community to stop the atrocities in Occupied Kashmir and play its role in the just solution of the Kashmir issue.
