Pakistan’s calls for strengthening partnership b/w OIC, UN

NEWYORK: Pakistan’s deputy prime minister Ishaq Dar has called for strengthening partnership between the OIC and the UN to advance a culture of peace and tolerance in the world riven by the various conflicts.

Speaking at an OIC’s high-level event on peace and tolerance in commemoration of the 1500th anniversary of the birth of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), in New York, he emphasized that this partnership should focus on promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue, safeguarding sacred sites and religious symbols and combating terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms.

He also highlighted the importance of mobilizing humanitarian support including through mechanisms such as Zakat and Waqf and empowering women and youth through education, science, technology, and active engagement in peacebuilding efforts.

Ishaq Dar referred to the universal relevance of the legacy of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and cited the Charter of Medina as an enduring example of pluralism, dialogue and interfaith relations based on mutual respect and understanding.

He highlighted the transformative impact of the philosophy of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him), underscoring how his teachings anchored in justice, tolerance and peace resonate deeply with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.
