NEWYORK: The Pakistani Civic Association of Staten Island celebrated Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day in a grand manner.
The Independence Day celebration, held at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Richmond, began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.
The Pakistani American community participated in the ceremony in large numbers with their families. The national anthems of the United States and Pakistan were played at the beginning, and the children waved the flags of both countries.
The club was also decorated with Pakistani and American flags and balloons resembling its colors for the Independence Day ceremony.
The special guest of the event Pakistani-origin commissioner in the New York City government Asim Rehman said that if there is dedication and quest to move forward and hard work, success is definitely destined.
Addressing the participants, President of the Pakistani Civic Association of Staten Island Dr. Khalid said that he was proud that his third generation was growing up in America. He said that we are a civilized nation and have always tried to bring our community forward.
The Independence Day ceremony also brought a lot of entertainment for the children, and the children also demonstrated their art on various songs.
Pakistan Civic Association ’s General Secretary Sadia Malik and the Chairman of the Board of Directors Haris Khan introduced the Association.
They said that the Pakistani community has played an important role in the promotion of civilization, culture and interfaith harmony in the fields of education, health, business.
Renowned cardiologist Dr. Inam-ul-Haq, President of the New York Police Muslim Officers Society Deputy Inspector Waheed Akhtar, political, social and business figures of the community, including American officials, participated in the ceremony.
Addressing the participants, the speakers said that American and Pakistani professionals have a long-standing relationship and it is an honor to participate in this ceremony.
Pakistani national songs were also played during Pakistan’s Independence Day, while other guests, including police officers, were presented with bouquets and awarded for their services.
