Sikh heritage month, Vaisakhi observed in New York

NEWYORK: Sikh Heritage Month and its famous festival Vaisakhi celebrations continued in New York. A colorful event was organized at City Hall to celebrate Sikh cultural heritage.

The colorful event held at City Hall to celebrate Sikh cultural heritage and Vaisakhi in New York showcased the culture, traditions and heritage of the Sikh community in a grand manner.

Artists displayed their skills and agility, while a captivating demonstration of Gutka, or swordplay, captured everyone’s attention.

City Council Speaker Julie Menin, Councilmember Lynn Schulman, Linda Lee, Rita Joseph, Dr. Maryam Singh of the Desi Society, the first Pakistani-origin inspector in NYP, Adeel Rana and other prominent figures also attended the event.

The council members appreciated the role and services of the Sikh community. The speakers said that the Sikh community has always given a message of love, service and peace.

The speakers said that Vaisakhi is not just a festival but a symbol of sacrifice, hard work and gratitude.

Later, Dr. Maryam Singh and others were also given citations in recognition of their outstanding services.
