ILLINOIS: Over 20,000 people attended the third annual Chicagoland Halal Fest 2025 at Frontier Park in Naperville, Illinois, making it the nation’s largest and most varied halal-themed festival.
The two-day event, which was organized by the Illinois Muslim Chamber of Commerce, included a busy market of artisanal merchants from all over the Midwest and beyond, a global showcase of halal cuisine, and lively cultural events such as camel rides and traditional Dabke and Zaffa dances.
“This celebration is about more than just food,” said Shafeek Abubaker, president of the Illinois Muslim Chamber.
“Identity, solidarity, and establishing a venue where communities — Muslim and non-Muslim alike — gather to celebrate diversity and common values are the key components.”
Mediterranean cuisine from Al Bawadi Grill, halal Mexican food, and fusion options like gourmet halal burgers were among the international flavors that guests savored.
VADA, a first-generation American Qawwali band from Virginia, gave a special performance as part of the entertainment.
In order to meet the growing demand, organizers are currently looking into the idea of relocating the event to a larger location in 2026. This year’s event went smoothly despite additional safety measures including metal detectors and a clear bag requirement, in part because of the City of Naperville’s ongoing support.
“We are immensely appreciative of the city’s collaboration,” Shafeek Abubaker continued. The increasing demand for ethical goods, halal cuisine, and cultural events that bring people together rather than drive them apart is reflected in this festival.
Several elected officials from the federal, state, and local levels attended the opening ceremony, including Congressman Foster, State Senator Laura Clymore Ellman, Government, College of DuPage President Dr. Muddassir Siddiqui, Consulate General of Pakistan Tariq Karim, and Mayor Scott Wehrli of the City of Naperville, Illinois.
