
ILLINOIS: Pakistani-American Shahzad Qazi made history as he took oath as South Barrington Village Trustee.
Pakistani-American Shahzad Kazi sworn in as a Village Trustee at a ceremony held at a hall in the Chicago suburb of South Barrington.
Kazi is the first Muslim and Pakistani-American elected to the position. He also achieved a major victory by receiving more votes than all other candidates. The oath taking ceremony was attended by a large number of the local Pakistani community, voters, and other dignitaries.
Addressing participants, Shahzad Kazi said that he is eager to work with the entire community and will make serving each individual his goal, beyond election results.
He said that he feels fortunate to represent the South Asian and Muslim communities. Shahzad is an experienced banker, businessman, and social worker and will now be in charge of finance and development affairs on the Village Board.
Shahzad Kazi said that his experience, expertise in budgeting, finance, and community involvement will prove beneficial to the Village Board.
He said that he will establish strong ties with every community in South Barrington and give special priority to the low income groups. He said that he will raise the quality of services at the local level but will also take serious steps to reduce the tax burden.
