
NEW YORK: Health experts have said that there are many symptoms of mental illness and ignoring them leads to dangerous consequences. Awareness and knowledge about mental health is very important.
These views were expressed by the speakers while addressing a seminar organized by the New Life Minority Human Rights Council.
New Life Minority Human Rights Council , an organization of women from the Pakistani community in New York, celebrated Mental Health and World Mother’s Day together.
The seminar titled “You are not alone, we are with you” was held at a local restaurant in a Coney Island Avenue. The seminar began with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by Naat in honor of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
A large number of women from different walks of life participated in the event, most of whom were dressed in green clothes in connection with mental health.
Advisor to the New Life Minority Human Rights Council Dr. Salma Kausar said that women suffering from mental health disorders should not consider themselves alone. She said that women can bring a lot of improvement in the lives of patients in the form of mothers, wives, daughters and sisters.
The seminar participants were also made aware of other diseases and social issues besides mental health.
Addressing participants, New Life Minority Human Rights Council Chairperson Rahila Aslam said that housewives were unable to pay attention to themselves due to their responsibilities and women should not ignore the symptoms of any disease.
Dr. Hina Farooqi, Dr. Shahzadi Parveen and other experts also participated in the seminar on mental health issues.
The speakers said that if there were symptoms like depression, frequent anxiety, panic, unnecessary or excessive thinking than one should definitely contact their doctor.
Health experts further said that many patients suffering from mental illnesses consider drug use as a solution to reduce their illness, which is extremely dangerous and its consequences prove to be devastating for life.
