NEWYORK: The American Council of Minority Women, in collaboration with Islamic Relief USA, celebrated its fourth annual Thanksgiving Day at Coney Island Brooklyn distributing halal turkeys to nearly five hundred underprivileged families.
A large number of low income group and underprivileged men and women made que in cold weather where ACMW team members and volunteers presented everyone with a special Thanksgiving Day gift.
Chairperson of ACMW Baza Roohi and coordinator of Islamic Relief USA Ibrahim Bukhari said that one way to thank Allah for His blessings is to help and serve His creation.
District Attorney Eric Gonzales arrived at the turkey food drive while a member of his office, Nancy Lulu, and representatives of the city’s Comptroller Brad Lander also participated. They all joined hands with ACMW volunteers and distributed halal turkeys to those in need.
The speakers said that immigrants are facing difficulties in the present situation but vowed that they will continue to help them at every situation.
Businessman and social activist Salman Zafar also graced the event on Thanksgiving Day, while New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams was represented by his deputy Kashif Hussain who also presented a certificate to the American Council of Minority Women.
ACMW’s officials said that they have been serving the community regardless of race and color for the past sixteen years and they will made efforts to further increase its social activities.
