NYPD Promotes 170 officers including 11 Muslims

NEWYORK: The New York Police Department has promoted more than 170 of its officers including 11 Muslims officers.

More than 170 officers were promoted to the next positions in various departments including Chief of Transit, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Inspector, Deputy Inspector, Lieutenant, Detective and Sergeant, including eleven Muslim officers.

Chief of Personnel John Benoit administered the oath to the officers.

New York City Police Commissioner Thomas G. Donlon congratulated all officers on their promotions. He expressed hope that all officers would approach their new responsibilities and challenges with renewed enthusiasm and dedication.

The families of officers who were promoted  also participated in the ceremony. Among the Muslim officers, Lieutenant Rahimullah Mashriqi, Tariq Khamis, Sergeant Zeeshan Munawar, Humayun Kabir, Khalid Abdullah, Yusuf Saeed, Syed Shesher, Omer Latif, Muhammad Manik, Abdullah and Risha Jamsher were the newly promoted officers.

After getting new positions and responsibilities, the Muslim officers said that in the past the number of Muslims in the police department was less but now it was gradually increasing which is welcoming.

The commissioned officers further said that the youth should join the police as many opportunities will be available to them for building a better and safer future.

The New York-based Muslim community has congratulated the promoted officers and expressed good wishes.
