Nassau County police department, Asian American Affairs hosts a National Faith and Blue Weekend at Al- Mahdi center

NEWYORK: The Nassau County Police Department and the Office of Asian American Affairs hosted a National Faith and Blue Weekend event at the Al Mahdi Center in Hicksville, Nassau County.

Police Department Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder was the guest of honor. The event is held every year in October to highlight the role of the police in the community.

The selection of Al Mahdi Center this year was considered as an honor.

The program began with a recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the presentation of the National Anthem.

The program was hosted by commanding officers of Nassau County police department officers James Holmes and officer Jim along with office of Asian American Affairs’s executive director Aun Naqvi.

Al-Mahdi Center Hicksville President Hasnain Aziz and Volunteers in-charge Fatima Moqim also played a key role in organizing the event.

Chief guest of the event, Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder, expressed his delight that the program was being held at a Muslim center. Office of Asian American Affairs Executive Director Aun Naqvi thanked and appreciated the Nassau County Police and Al-Mahdi center administration for heir hard work in organizing the  important program for the community.

Speaking on the occasion, the community leaders emphasized the need for strong links between the police and the community.

Various stalls of food, cloths and other items were set up at the event including play area for the children.

The Nassau County Police Department’s Mountain Unit, Patrol Unit, Special Operations Unit and Aviation Unit drew attention of the participants at the event.  Later, Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder was awarded honorary shield, while the aviation unit’s helicopter commemorated the ceremony.
