NEWYORK: US Congressman and Pakistan Caucus Chair Tom Suozzi has written a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan and India, and called for a briefing on ongoing recovery efforts for the flood-affected region.
Tom Suozzi said that there is a need to work together in the current situation. Congressman Tom Suozzi said in a video statement that both Pakistan and India are currently facing the worst floods, while climate change and natural disasters have no geographical borders.
“Today I released my letter with my co-chair Congressman Jack Bergman (R-MI) and Co-Chairs of the India Caucus Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Rich McCormick (R-GA), to Secretary of State Rubio asking for a Members briefing on the ongoing recovery efforts following the floods in India and Pakistan,” Tom Suozzi said.
He said that he and his co-chair Jack Bergman have sent a written letter to Secretary of State Rubio that thousands of people have died, injured and millions have been displaced due to floods in Pakistan and India.
He said that crops have been destroyed and livestock have been killed due to the flood disaster, and the current situation is deplorable.
Tom Suozzi said that the Kartarpur Gurdwara in Pakistan is a place for which border cooperation is established between Pakistan and India, and thousands of Sikh pilgrims cross the border and come to Pakistan.
Tom Suozzi said that climate change and floods cannot be stopped by man-made geographical borders, so it is important that everyone works together in the current situation.
“Natural disasters don’t discriminate based on borders or political disputes. We must move past our differences and work together to help our friends in India and Pakistan,” he said.
He expressed hope that this powerful display of unity would inspire more leaders to work together for the common good for this devastated region.
