NEWYORK: Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s Office of Asian American Affairs, Office of Hispanic Affairs and the social organization People’s Organization for Welfare Equality and Reforms distributed school bags and supplies to more than 1,000 students.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman organized the distribution of backpacks and school supplies to students after the vacations.
School students from different communities participated in the event with their parents and received bags and school supplies available in different colors.
Addressing the participants, Nassau County Office of Asian American Affairs Executive Director Aun Naqvi said that working together always yields positive results.
A large number of students and parents were present outside the office to receive school bags and supplies.
The bag distribution event was attended by the deputy director, program coordinator, volunteers from the county, while POWER founder and chairperson Tahira Din, Nawab Din and others.
POWER founder and chairperson Tahira Din said that education is the path to progress, and the distribution of backpacks is the best gift for children at the beginning of school opening.
County officers, their team and volunteers all participated in the bag distribution. Executive director of the Office of Hispanic Affairs Amy Flores said that she was very happy with the distribution of backpacks among the students.
POWER founder and chairperson Tahira Din was presented with a citation for community services by the county executive. It is pertinent to mention that last year, Power distributed free ice cream to children in the Back to School program, and County Executive Bruce Blakeman presented Power with a citation in recognition of his services.
