Two-day summit of HOPPE concludes in Houston

HOUSTON: The first two-day summit of Hematology and Oncology Physicians Promoting Excellence HOPPE, a non-profit organization founded by Pakistani-origin doctors to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment in the United States, has concluded.

Pakistani-origin doctors living in the US are at the forefront of diagnosing and providing better treatment for the deadly disease cancer.

A non-profit organization Hematology and Oncology Physicians Promoting Excellence organized its first two-day inaugural summit in Houston, Texas.

Addressing a press conference, founder and president of the executive committee of the HOPPE Dr. Khurram Tariq and vice president Dr. Amir Ehsan explained the goals and objectives of their organization.

Experts and activists from the US, UK and other countries in hematology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, surgical oncology, palliative care, clinical trials and other sub-disciplines related to cancer treatment participated in the summit.

HOPPE Secretary General Dr. Kiran Naqvi, Strategic Partner Dr. Hassan Kaleem and Dr. Samira Shafi said that the organization, which consists of medical experts, clinicians and researchers, founded by Pakistani-American doctors, aims to provide a global platform that connects doctors across borders and improves patient outcomes.

The summit brought together globally recognized experts as well as emerging leaders, fellows, residents, and doctors in training, creating an environment for collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge exchange. The families of the participants were also invited to the summit to encourage and train the next generation of leaders in the field of medicine and humanitarian service.

The event featured the special participation of Dr. Ann Corinne Beaver, a surgeon from North Carolina who defeated the insidious disease of cancer with courage and determination.

She shared her personal journey as a doctor against breast cancer and her experiences dealing with the challenges of chemotherapy and its toxic effects.

The conference was also attended by the first Pakistani-origin Congressman elected to the second consecutive term from District 92 of the state of Texas Salman Bhojani, Dr. Suleman Lalani, Maryland State Assembly member Dr. Hassan Jalisi, former Secretary General of the Pakistani American Doctors’ Association (APNA), Dr. Sanaullah, Houston’s Dr. Muhammad Yaqub Sheikh, and others professionals from the medical field. The speakers assured HOPPE that they would receive all possible support.

Dr. Khurram Tariq also introduced the new Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Scientific Advisory Board during the summit.

He said that this first summit of HOPPE is an important step towards bringing together experts in hematology, oncology, and related fields. He said that they want to create a network where the quality of cancer treatment for patients is high.

The program featured educational sessions, CME expert-led discussions, and networking opportunities to foster innovation and shared purpose at all stages of professional development.

Speakers said that HOPPE is looking forward to build on its successful summit with future meetings, research initiatives, training programs, mentoring, philanthropic efforts, and expanded collaboration with cancer hospitals in South Asia.

MD Anderson Cancer Center and Professor and Director of Myeloma Transplantation and Cellular Therapy at the University of Texas Dr. Muzaffar Qazilbash gave an insightful talk on the future of research, patient care, and oncology, drawing on his decades of experience, leadership, and service at leading cancer centers around the world.

The two-day conference featured keynote speaker presentations, educational lectures by cancer research doctors, and awards were distributed among the conference sponsors.

Later, the emerging Pakistani musician and US-based Qawwal Arsalan Rabbani captivated the audience with his brilliant performance.

All the events of the second day were held at the Tempura Marquee Range, which also featured various entertainment programs for the audience. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all the sponsors, pharmaceutical partners, speakers, and media partners for making the event a success.
