UNGA’s high-level meetings to review WSIS+20 begins in New York

NEWYORK: A two-day high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly to review the 20-year performance of the world summit on the information society is going to start on Tuesday in New York.

The high-level meeting of the General Assembly will take place on 16-17 December 2025, in accordance with the rules and procedures of the General Assembly.

Pakistan will also play an active role in this important global conference and is sending its delegation to participate.

The meeting is being held to review progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through information and communication technologies.

Key themes of the meeting include bridging the digital divide, improving access to digital infrastructure in developing countries, and closing the digital divide.

The meeting will emphasize how digital technologies can be effectively used to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The meeting will also shape the future framework for internet governance, ensuring the participation of all stakeholders (governments, civil society, private sector).

Human rights, freedom of expression and protection of privacy in the digital age are also expected to be discussed.

Pakistan’s delegation will participate in these discussions and present its position in line with the vision of establishing an inclusive and development-oriented information society.

Pakistan will highlight the achievements and challenges faced in implementing the objectives of the information society.

Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed will be part of the Pakistani delegation and will articulate the country’s perspective. The outcomes of this meeting will determine the direction of the United Nations’ digital initiatives and global digital cooperation in the coming years.
