NEWYORK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad has called for urgent global action to address escalating humanitarian crises.

Addressing the UN General Assembly during debate on Humanitarian Assistance, he emphasized that unresolved conflicts remain the primary driver of humanitarian need.

Asim Iftikhar reiterated that humanitarian assistance cannot substitute for political solutions.

The Ambassador said mechanisms for peaceful settlement of disputes, including preventive diplomacy, mediation, and good offices of the Secretary-General must be strengthened to resolve longstanding conflicts and disputes.

He emphasized the urgent need for full respect of international humanitarian and human rights laws, protection of civilians and infrastructure, and unimpeded humanitarian access.
