CHICAGO: The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) held a celebration at Drury Lane Oak Brook Terrace to commemorate its 33rd anniversary.
The Council of Islamic Organizations of Chicago comes together annually to combat and increase awareness of bigotry in all of its forms and the immense difficulties that Muslim brethren in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Myanmar, and other nations face.
They also installed billboards demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, spoke with Illinois authorities, and actively participated in the annual Illinois Muslim Action Network (IMAD).
CIOGC Chairman Dr. Abdulghani Hamadia described the objectives, projects, expansion plans, and budgetary requirements required to address the community’s expanding needs.
“Today marks 33 years of building communities and leaving a lasting impression,” he stated. “When we collaborate, we can make changes over time.”
Congresswoman Robin Kelly and Illinois Senator Karina Villa attended and spoke at the event.
State Representative Abdul Nasir Rasheed and Congresswoman Lauren Underwood were speakers during the gathering.
By recognizing accomplished Muslim women and their exceptional accomplishments to society, the esteemed event raises public awareness of the Muslim community.
CIOGC is a non-profit organization that promotes Muslims of all origins and unites more than 70 mosques and Islamic organizations in Chicago.
The theme of the event was “Now More Than Ever, Stand Together.” Led by more than 400,000 Muslim Americans, the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) has been a diverse and multifaceted alliance of groups in the greater Chicago area and, increasingly, the entire state of Illinois for more than 33 years.
The Chicago-based International Mosque and Islamic School Consortium (CIOGC) is a broad and multi-faceted coalition of organizations, including over 70 mosques, Islamic schools, and community organizations.
The Muslim community represents a wide variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds, including African American, Nigerian, South Asian, Arab, Bosnian Albanian, Turkish, Latino, Caucasian, and more.
These incredible communities come together through the Council to engage and work with the public, government, media, the interfaith community, and other relevant parties.
The event was moderated by Abdullah Mitchell. The event began with a beautiful recitation of Holy Quran and translation. In his speech, CIOGC Executive Director Ahmed Ibarek emphasized the organization’s goals, objectives, and design framework.
During the event, CIOGC honored individuals and organizations who courageously defend our freedoms, advocate for the voiceless, and embody the spirit of service and solidarity.
Maria Mozaffar and Dr. Mustafa Khattab received Lifetime achievement award form Council of Islamic Organization of Greater 33rd annual Gala.
