BAPA organizes Gala dinner, pays tribute to martyr police officer Didar-ul-Islam
NEWYORK: Bangladeshi American Police Association organized a gala dinner in which awards were given to several police officers and community leaders, including Pakistani-American Police Inspector Adeel Rana.
The ninth annual awards dinner of the Bangladeshi American Police Association was held at a local hall in Queens, which began with the singing of the national anthems of the United States and Bangladesh.
The awards ceremony was attended by a large number of police officers and community leaders, including the president of BAPA, association officials, members and their families.
The purpose of organizing this dinner was to appreciate the services of police officers. On this occasion, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch praised the performance of Bangladeshi-origin officers.
The participants were also shown a short documentary based on the various activities of BAPA throughout the year.
Addressing the participants, mayoral candidate Zoharan Mamdani paid tribute to Didar-ul-Islam and said that the New York Police Department personnel ensure the safety of citizens without worrying about their own lives.
Muslim Chaplain of the New York Police Department, Imam Tahir, remembered the sacrifice of the martyred New York Police officer Didar-ul-Islam, while the BAPA President appreciated Didar-ul-Islam’s sense of duty, courage and bravery.
The Bangladeshi American Police Association invited the family of martyr Didar-ul-Islam on stage and presented them with awards and honorary medals.
The ceremony was also attended by President of Muslim Officers Society, Deputy Inspector Waheed Akhtar, Inspector Adeel Rana, the first Pakistani-origin NYPD officer, and other officers.
Inspector Adeel said that Didar-ul-Islam’s sense of duty, courage, and bravery are an example for everyone and he will always be remembered.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief and Assistant Chief also appreciated the work of the Bangladeshi American Police Association.
At its annual awards dinner, the Bangladeshi American Police Association named Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch as woman of the year, Deputy Chief Salvatore G as man of the year, Pakistani-origin Inspector Adeel Rana as commanding officer of the year, while Bangladeshi-origin officers and members of the association were given awards in various categories in recognition of their services.
Later, the participants took pictures with friends and preserved these moments as a memory.
