NEWYORK: Council on Pak-US relations organized fundraising dinner in New York to help flood victims in Pakistan in which participants donated generously. Famous folk singer Sanam Marvi mesmerized the audience by singing the Sufi poetry.
A large number of the South Asian community participated in the event held at Hicksville. US Congressman Tom Suozzi attended the event as a special guest.
Addressing the participants, Congressman Tom Suozzi said that natural disasters do not see color, race, religion or nationality and we should not discriminate while helping. He said that humanity has no borders.
He further said that three years ago, when the floods hit Pakistan, he was the first American politician to visit the flood affected areas.
He said that he represent different nationalities. Tom Suozzi also raised slogan Long Live Pakistan.
Various artworks were also auctioned and the proceeds were used to help the flood victims.
Head of the Council on Pak-US relations, Zeeshan Hamid said that his organization is bearing the expenses of this event and the money collected will be sent to Pakistan.
A large number of people from the political, social and business circles participated in the fundraising and generously donated.
Dr. Asma Habib Chaudhry and Sarah Sajjad said that even a small donation can be beneficial for the flood affected people.
Overseas Pakistani Global Foundation and Pakistani Christian Association also supported the event. PCA Chairman William Shahzad and Indian businessman said that whether the people who died in the flood were from Pakistan or India, the grief of both is the same.
The fundraising event also featured a mystical singing performance, in which Pakistan’s renowned folk singer Sanam Marvi recited several Kalams in her unique style which enthralled the audience.
