CHICAGO: In an exceptional, historical and symbolic gesture of recognition, Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta presented the key to the city of Bolingbrook to Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago, Tariq Karim.
The honor acknowledges his outstanding commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations, fostering friendship, and engaging meaningfully with the local community.
Mayor Alexander-Basta praised Consul General Tariq Karim’s pivotal role in cultivating strong ties between the Pakistani-American community and the broader Chicagoland region.
She also commended his strong leadership and proactive efforts in building enduring diplomatic and community partnerships.
President Association of Pakistani Americans in Bolingbrook, Talat Rashid, and former Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar also recognized his exceptional service and leadership.
Consul General Tariq Karim expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the honor as a powerful and symbolic reflection of the deepening connection between the peoples of Pakistan and the United States.
He highlighted the significance of Pakistan–U.S. relations and extended sincere thanks to the City of Bolingbrook, the APA, and the community for their steadfast support in advancing shared goals — including the preservation and enrichment of the longstanding tradition of Pakistan flag hoisting, which has spanned over three decades, and the Bolingbrook-Sialkot Sister City relationship.
He remarked that the key to the city also serves as a symbol of trust and friendship — and an opening for even greater cooperation in the future.
