
NEWYORK: New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams held a special meeting with journalists from the South Asian community at a local restaurant in Brooklyn.
A large number of journalists from Pakistan and other South Asian countries participated in the meeting.
The event was organized to hear the problems, suggestions and concerns of the South Asian community living in New York and to develop a strong line of action for the next four years.
Jumaane Williams answered journalists’ questions in detail, especially discussing issues related to immigrants such as immigration policy, legal protections, educational opportunities and social security.
Jumaane Williams said that we all need to work together to strengthen the power and representation of the community.
He said that he takes up the issues of the South Asian community very seriously and look forward to work closely with all of them in the future. He added that his office will be in constant contact with the South Asian community so that their recommendations and concerns can be incorporated into policies to the greatest extent possible.
Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain said that it is an honor that we are working on South Asian issues and for us, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams is a great example of how to discharge our responsibilities in a dignified manner.
Later, Jumaane Williams and Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain also thanked the journalists.
