113 years old Pakistani woman arrives US for permanent residence

NEWYORK: A 113-year-old woman from Larkana district of Sindh, Pakistan has arrived in the United States for permanent residence.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, she said that she eats whatever is cooked at home but said that she likes to eat meat, rice and fish the most.  She said that she will miss home country Pakistan a lot.

Sardar Khatun was born in 1912 in Larkana district of Sindh. She spent her entire life in Pakistan. Now at the age of 113, she has reached US with her daughter and son-in-law and will now stay here.

Sardar Khatun is the first South Asian woman to live in America. She says that it was good to reach America, but she will always miss her homeland and city.

Sardar Khatun has seen one hundred and thirty springs of life. She must have seen countless events of more than a century. Everyone was happy and surprised to have lived such a long life. Sardar Khatun told that secret of such life is her simplicity.

Co-chair of the Pakistani Caucus and Congressman elected from the third congressional district Tom Suozzi played an important role in getting Sardar Khatun immigration and a green card.

Tom Suozzi celebrated Pakistan day and Sardar Khatun’s arrival in the United States together at a restaurant in Hicksville, New York, and also welcomed her in Urdu.

Prominent figures from the Pakistani American community also participated in the ceremony. On this occasion, Sardar Khatun’s daughter Shaheen and her son-in-law said that their mother has come to them after a long time, for which they are grateful to the US authorities.

Congressman Tom Suozzi said that he will hold a joint conference with the US State Department and Pakistani officials in Washington on April 30, in which the history of Pak-US relations, the current situation and the way forward in the future will be discussed.

Congressman Tom Suozzi presented Sardar Khatun an honorary shield and also expressed his best wishes for a healthy life.
