NEWYORK: POWER, an organization for the education and fundamental rights of South Asian women, organized an event at a local restaurant in Long Island to mark world Hijab and Women’s day.
The organization’s renowned social activist Tahira Deen, who in keeping with her tradition of always being at the forefront of serving the community, organized this important event. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.
The organizer of the event Tahira Din informed the participants about the aims and objectives of the program and said that this is the second year that we are celebrating Hijab Day, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of hijab in promoting women’s rights and self-esteem.
The event was attended by personalities from different walks of life, who appreciated Tahira Din’s social services and described her as an active voice of the immigrant community.
Executive Director of Asian American Affairs Nassau County Aun Naqvi said that the joint celebration of Hijab day and international women’s day is a great opportunity to pay tribute to the role of women in society.
On this occasion, hijabs were distributed among women, while women who played a prominent role in serving the community were also honored with honorary shields and awards.
Later, a birthday cake was also cut for the son of renowned community leader Aun Naqvi.
The participants emphasized that such events not only serve as a means of promoting women’s rights but also spread the message of mutual love, harmony and unity in the community.
