POWER organizes seminar on NYC’s program Breaking Bread, Building Bonds

NEWYORK: The New York city community affairs unit, in collaboration with the social organization working to educate and protect the basic rights of workers for the South Asian community POWER, organized a seminar on the city government’s program Breaking Bread, Building Bonds at a school in Queens.

The seminar began with a recitation of Holy Quran by renowned religious scholar Tasawur-ul-Hassan Gilani.

The seminar was attended by a large number of Pakistani American community political, social and business figures. The seminar was moderated by POWER’s founding chairperson Tahira Deen, who informed the participants about the aims and objectives of the seminar.

She said that people of all religions and nationalities live in New York, and to maintain this beauty, it is necessary to maintain an atmosphere of unity and harmony.

The seminar was also attended by New York City Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain, the South Asian Community Liaison Officer from the Mayor’s office Community Affairs Unit, and representatives.

Addressing participants, the speakers said that there were large number of opportunities were available for progress and development in the city and that benefits can be gained by increasing mutual communication.

Representatives of various organizations of the Pakistani community, including Wakeel Ansari, Naseem Gilgiti, Dr. Sadia Tahir, Syed Waseem, and people from different communities and walks of life, participated in large numbers.

The speakers said that women play a key role in the development and progress of any society and women of the Pakistani community have achieved their place in various fields.

Religious scholar Tasawur-ul-Hassan Gilani said that the love of the Pakistani community for their motherland cannot be diminished however in the present circumstances, it is our responsibility to remain active in the social and political system of the US.

Later, Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain, on behalf of the New York City Public Advocate Office, awarded certificates of appreciation to women for their community services.
