
DALLAS: A special event was organized by Friends of Kashmir on the occasion of Kashmir Black Day to support the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
Chairperson of the Friends of Kashmir Ghazala Habib said in her address that sustainable peace and stability in South Asia depends on a peaceful solution to the Jammu and Kashmir conflict in accordance with the UN resolutions.
The participants of the event expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir who are living under the illegal and unjustified occupation of India.
Chief guest of the event Abdul Hafeez Khan said that the people of Pakistan will continue to raise their voices for the right of self-determination of their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
Pakistan’s Consul General in Houston Aftab Chaudhry said the case of Kashmir stands on strong political, legal and moral foundations and Pakistan will continue to support the just struggle of Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
Famous singer Fakhir Mahmood, senior journalist Mazhar Barlas, Dr. Aamir Qureshi, Ashraf Bashir, Maulana Aseel Khan and others also expressed their views.
They described October 27, 1947 as one of the darkest days for the Kashmiri people, as since that day the Indian occupation suppressed the legitimate aspirations of Kashmiris to determine their future and subjected them to serious human rights violations.
The participants of the event said that Kashmiri people have been looking to the international community since generations, particularly the United Nations, to ensure implementation of UN resolutions with regard to their right to self-determination.
The event was attended by a large number of Pakistani-Americans, Kashmiris, journalists and other dignitaries, highlighting the importance of the Kashmir issue.
