Cab driver shot dead in Brooklyn

NEWYORK: A cab driver was shot dead at Prospect Heights section in Brooklyn.

The incident took place after 10 pm near Lincoln palace, Prospect Heights Brooklyn when unidentified persons shot Pakistani American Naveed Afzal, 52 on his head when he was sitting on driving seat of black Mercedes-Benz SUV.

Eyewitnesses of the incident saw two men running away from the car on foot. A gun has been recovered from the scene, but it is not yet known who the gun belongs to.

Nadeem Afzal was taken to New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Naveed Afzal, 52, was the sole breadwinner of his family and he came to America from Pakistan 5 years ago and started supporting his family. Naveed Afzal has 3 daughters, and 1 son.

Commissioner David Dove has assured NYPD’s full cooperation in the investigation and expressed his condolences to the driver and his family. This tragic incident highlights the rising crime rate in the city. The police are investigating the incident while searching for the suspects.
