New life minority human rights council organizes mental health awareness seminar in New York
Pakistan’s Consul General in New York Amir Ahmed Atuzai presents an award to Fahmida Ahmed, a Pakistani woman who cared for her sick husband for a long time and raised children with disabilities
NEWYORK: New life minority human rights council, a social organization of Paksitani-American women, organized an awareness seminar on the eve of international mother’s day and mental health day with titled:”You Are Not Alone” at a local restaurant in Coney Island, Brooklyn.
A large number of Pakistani American women from various fields participated in the awareness seminar.
The seminar was moderated by Dr. Minhal Ali who introduced all the guests and welcomed them on their arrival.
Newlife minority human rights council Chairperson Raheela Aslam, Dr. Salma Kausar and Dr. Minhal Ali highlighted various topic of mental health, summarized their professional life experiences and also gave advises to the participants.
Pakistan’s Consul General in New York Amir Ahmed Atuzai and President of New York Police Muslim Officers Society Inspector Adeel Rana also participated in the seminar.
Addressing the participants, they said that mental health is an important issue whereas the conditions and diseases related to it should not be ignored and all of us should support each other in such situation.
The participants of the event dressed in green colors as a symbol for support the cause of mental health. City council members, representatives of their office affairs also participated in the seminar.
Members of Pakistani community organizations and women of the community said that ignoring various diseases related to mental health was not a solution to the problems but it makes the diseases more complicated.
On this occasion, a special report of Voice of South Asia was shown which was based on a Pakistani woman Fahmida Ali who is living in New York and has been raising her disabled children for forty years and also taking care of her sick husband for twenty years. Consul General Amir Ahmed Atuzai appreciated the determination and courage of Fehmida Ahmed and presented an awarded from the new life minority human rights council.
