Inspector Amir Yakatally posted as police chief in New York Police Department

NEWYORK: Another proud movement for Muslim Americans. Inspector Amir Yakatally, posted in New York Police Department, has been promoted to the post of police chief. Yakatally is the first Muslim chief of NYPD.

Amir Yakatally had joined the police force nearly 20 years ago in 2005. He became the second Muslim Deputy Inspector in October 2019 and then in November 2019 he got the honor of becoming the first Muslim Inspector.

He was also posted as Commanding Officer in Precinct 32 of NYPD.  He has been now decided to promote from Inspector to Chief of Police.

Amir Yakatally is the first Muslim American in the New York Police Department to be promoted to the position of police chief. The official ceremony will be held on Friday at the police academy in Queens.

NYPD’s Muslim Officer Society President Adeel Rana and all other members have congratulated Amir Yakatally for becoming the Chief of Police and have also expressed good wishes for his further development and success.
