NEWYORK: New York City Public Advocate Jumaane D Williams hosted an Iftar dinner for members of the Muslim community in the Manhattan area.
The Iftar dinner was attended by US officials, members of the diplomatic staff of Muslim countries, assembly and council members and other members of the Muslim community. The Iftar dinner was hosted by the Office of the Public Advocate in collaboration with the Silk Road Foundation.
Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain welcomed the participants. On this occasion, Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani, Assembly Member Khalil Anderson, City Council Member Yusef Salaam, Council Member Alexa Aviles, Council Member Rita Joseph, Consul General of Uzbekistan in USA New York Jamil Sharapov and Vice Consul General of Pakistan Umar Sheikh were also present.
East Flatbush’s Masjid Imam Hassan Akbar said that an immediate ceasefire in Gaza is very necessary.
Speaking at the ceremony, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane D Williams said there should be an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. He said that he does not know how to solve the Middle East crises but he knew that everything that was happening in Gaza must stop immediately.
Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain said that this Ramadan is very painful for entire Muslim community because of the oppressed Palestinians, because the way Muslims were being martyred in Gaza in this holy month. He also requested a moment of silence for the oppressed Palestinians of Gaza.
On this occasion, the lock and the keys of the Holy Kaaba and the cover of the Holy Kaaba and other Islamic relics were also kept for display which was seen by the people with great devotion and respect.
Diplomatic staff of other Muslim countries also attended an Iftar dinner. Vice Consul General of Pakistan Omar Shaikh congratulated Muslim community of Ramadan and appreciated the office of public advocate for hosting an Iftar dinner.
US officials said that the situation in Gaza is very heartbreaking for all of us. They said that they have heard from many politicians that all people should be treated equally but when lines are drawn when it comes to rights of the Palestinians.
Iftar dinner was attended by elected officials, religious leaders and dignitaries, including New York City’s Muslim American community who appreciated the initiative of the Public Advocate Office.
