Friday prayers in the United States of America have been cancelled across major states of the country including New Jersey, New York Upstate, Texas and Illinois amid the country’s growing coronavirus outbreak.
Safety measures by the government will see the religious prayers of Friday for the Muslims disrupted. Friday is the main congregational day of prayer in Islam involving huge set ups for prayers with masses of Muslims turning up for the occasion
The cancellation of the prayers will be carried out in the following Masjids as per the information provided by the American Muslim Council:
Mayor New York, Bill De Blasio earlier instructed the people to avoid huge gatherings and stay at home at the slightest hint of flu symptoms. He admitted to the Covid-19 cases ‘coming in so intensely’ in the last few days.
Earlier, Broadway New York decided to suspend all of its shows for a month after New York Gov. advisory of ban on all gatherings of more than 500 people
The United States by now has surpassed 1,700 confirmed or presumptive cases of the coronavirus, and the death toll has climbed to 41.
