NEWYORK: New York State Supreme Court Justice candidate Kelly Reap said that everybody deserve the protections of the law and that is something that she would certainly strive to ensure happens.

In an interview with Voice of South Asia, Kelly Reap said that she has received very positive support, not only from registered voters who are registered Republicans, but also people whom she met during the campaign.

She said that voters have offered their support and have expressed how happy they are that she was running and they are looking forward to vote for her.

“Many of my co-workers and people I meet on the street, once they learn my credentials and my support, they’re all very positive and I appreciate that,” she said.

To a question about immigrants, she said that there is a lot of conflict going on with respect to immigrants in the community, legal and illegal and there’s a lot of discussion about how they are treated, how they should be treated, and this is a very difficult issue for everybody involved.

“As a judge, if I had any cases coming before me pertaining to that issue or any issue, I would certainly rely upon the rule of law, which requires everybody to be treated fairly and with justice in whatever capacity they’re brought before the court,” she said.

Kelly said that even though there may be conflicts on the streets or in public discourse regarding this issue but in a courtroom it’s important that we follow the laws and she would certainly strive to do that.

On question about rising cases of hate crimes, she said that every crime has to be treated with the same amount of seriousness.

She said that it doesn’t matter who the victim is but it’s not okay to commit a crime against them.

She said that laws need to be enforced fairly, but they also need to be enforced equally.  She said that everybody deserves the protections of the law and that’s something that she would certainly strive to ensure happens.

About her professional career, she said that she has been practicing law for more than 31 years and she has worked in criminal and civil laws.

“I am dedicated to courts being fair and people being treated appropriately at all times, whether they’re lawyers or people who are using the courts in other capacities,” she said.

Kelly, who is living at Long Island for the past 30 years with her family, said that it’s been so important to us to have our family around us to teach them how to be good people and responsible people.

She said that we all want our families to be healthy. We want our families to be safe. We want to be able to take care of our families.

“We’ve really enjoyed having wonderful neighbors and we’ve drawn upon our friendships and our family relationships in helping us through good times and bad times,” she said.

She said that Supreme Court justice can sit in either a criminal court or a civil court adding that she have both civil and criminal experience and she would be happy and qualified to serve in any one of those parts when she is elected.

She said that one thing everybody should know is that in the courts, we want to make sure that everybody who appears before us is heard.

She said that if they speak any language, Urdu, Punjabi, Spanish, any language, there is an interpreter available to help them understand what is going on and be heard in the courts.

On a query about support of the organizations, Kelly said that she has been endorsed by the PBA, the Policeman’s Benevolent Association of both Suffolk and Nassau County.

She further said that she was also endorsed by the Suffolk County Law Enforcement Coalition, which is a group of numerous law enforcement entities, including the Suffolk PBA, the Suffolk Correction Officers, the Suffolk Detectives Association, the Suffolk Superior Officers Organization, and several others. I’m also endorsed by my union, the Suffolk County Court Employees Association and other unions as well.

Kelly, who began her career in the District Attorney’s Office in Suffolk County as a prosecutor practicing criminal law and also represented Suffolk County in civil law, urged voters to cast their votes.
