COPO decorates Coney Island with lights to welcome the month of Ramadan

NEWYORK: As holy month of Ramadan is about to arrive, the Council of People’s Organization decorated Coney Island Avenue Little Pakistan with lights to welcome the month of mercy, blessings and forgiveness.

The COPO office and other buildings and walkways were decorated with the words Ramadan Mubarak written in sparkling electric lights.

Addressing the participants, COPO head Mohammad Rizvi said that we have all learned to respect each other’s religion, beliefs, traditions, civilization and culture and this is the beauty of this city and country.

Political, social and business figures of the Pakistani American community also participated in the special ceremony of welcoming the month of Ramadan, while various American officials including New York City Mayor Zoharan Mamdani, Comptroller and representatives of the Brooklyn Borough also participated in special events. Everyone welcomed the month of fasting in a grand manner.

American officials participating in the Ramadan reception congratulated Muslims on the month of Ramadan, expressed their best wishes, and appreciated the non-discriminatory community services of the COPO. The speakers said that it is necessary to participate in each other’s celebrations to promote religious harmony and tolerance.

The participants said that this initiative of the COPO is a unique way to make aware people of other religions to Islamic teachings. Later, the decorated lights were turned on by pressing a button.
