19th grand iftar dinner organized in New Jersey
NEWJERSEY: The 19th annual grand iftar dinner was organized in the New Jersey by the Eid Committee in which not only Muslims but also non-Muslims sit together while prominent figures were also honored with awards.
The 19th annual Iftar dinner began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the translation of the Quranic verses into English.
A large number of Muslim community members from Pakistan and India and other countries participated in the event. Young children wearing Palestinian flags presented a magnificent tableau based on awareness about Ramadan.
The host committee welcomed and thanked all the guests for their arrival. The host committee members presented a review of the objectives and performance of the establishment of the Eid Committee of New Jersey.
The hall was beautifully decorated for the Iftar dinner. Prominent British-American journalist Mehdi Raza Hassan attended as the special guest.
The founding chairman of Eid committee of New Jersey Khawaja Tamkeen Khatib welcomed senior journalist Mehdi Raza Hassan.
Mehdi Raza also had a session with the children. On this occasion, Tamkeen Khatib said that for many years, we have been organizing grand iftars to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and to promote religious tolerance and we want our young generation to achieve a prominent position in every field.
Tamkeen Khatib thanked all his sponsors and said that without their cooperation, the program would not have been possible.
Elected members of the New Jersey State Assembly Shama Haider, Lisa Swain, Chris Talley and Bergen County officials also attended the grand iftar dinner.
The speakers urged the participants to play their effective role in the elections.
Not only Muslims but also people of other religions participated in the grand iftar dinner in large numbers due to which the event was presenting a practical example of the message of interfaith harmony and tolerance.
Addressing participants, the representative of the Governor’s office and the County official asked the participants to participate in the political system and the electoral process, which will give them representation.
Tamkeen Khatib’s daughter, a 11-year-old Aya Mirza presented a poem on the reality of life and its message.
Prayers were offered for the progress, prosperity and success of the Muslim Ummah. Later, the guests participating in the grand Iftar were awarded certificates of appreciation and awards for their outstanding services and work in their departments.
