NEW YORK: It is not only normal but mandatory for Muslims during the month of Ramadan to arrange for Sehri and Iftar during their working hours.
The officers and personnel of the Muslim community work in the New York Police do not break their fast alone, but must also include their non-Muslim colleagues on duty too.
Hosting Iftar in Ramadan is not only a tradition but also a wonderful practical example of hospitality in the culture of Muslims.
The young detective Nauman Malik, stationed in New York Police Station 43, hosted Iftar not only for his Muslim colleagues but also his non-Muslim colleagues also participated in Iftar.
Maghrib Azaan was called in police station at time of Iftar and Muslims officer and personnel offered prayers. The Imam narrated the basic concepts of Islam so that non-Muslims can understand the message of Islam.
NYPD Commanding Officer Captain Mohammad Jahangir Ashraf also participated in the Iftar. He said that this is the first Iftar of its kind in any police station in the history of the New York Police. It is pertinent to mention that tradition of hosting Iftar in the New York Police Department was established 16 years ago by the Muslim Officers Society.
