Trump, Modi Show Unity at Houston Rally; Protesters Raise Rights of Kashmiris

US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchanged warm words of friendship in Texas at a rare mass rally for a foreign leader.

Around 50,000 people gathered for what Mr Trump called a “profoundly historic event” on Sunday in Houston.

Thousands of activists and citizens from all over Texas had gathered in Houston over the weekend to prepare and mobilise for the demonstration against Modi.

As Modi started his speech, outside the NRG stadium the fervour and anger of thousands of Indians, Pakistanis, white allies and supporters of all races and nationalities and  ethnicities  called attention to the “racist Modi regime” and its ongoing human rights violations in India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Holding a poster that reads `Free Kashmir’, Raja Muzafar of the Kashmir Global Council: “I’m attending to demand an independent Kashmir. The thousands of Kashmiri flags here in solidarity shows that the world is with Kashmiris.”

A large number of Sikh community members have also gathered to protest Modi’s actions in occupied Kashmir.

The crowds beat drums, chanted slogans and some used rap lyrics as a way to communicate their message, calling for world leaders to end the suffering of Kashmiris.

Trade talks and the UN General Assembly are on the agenda for Mr Modi during his week-long visit to the United States.
