Iran to Unveil Plan for Gulf Security
Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani has warned that foreign forces are threatening the security of the Gulf, after the US said it was deploying troops to the region.
“Wherever Americans have set foot, they increased insecurity, as it was proved in cases of Afghanistan and Iraq,” he said in a speech marking the 39th anniversary of the Iraqi-Iranian war.
Iranian President added “his country is ready to extend a hand of friendship to all neighbors and “forgive their past mistakes”.
Rouhani said he will unveil an initiative in the UN General Assembly this week “to guarantee the security of the Persian Gulf and Hormuz Strait with the cooperation of regional states”.
This year has seen continuing tension between the US and Iran, following President Donald Trump’s abandonment of a deal aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear activities in return for the easing of sanctions.
