NEWYORK: Rights organizations held protest demonstration outside UN during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, in support of the Palestinians and against Israeli atrocities.

Protesters demanded that the international community secure a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

A protest demonstration, aimed to express solidarity with Gaza and the oppressed Palestinian people, took place at the intersection of 46th Street and Second Avenue, near the UN headquarters.

Protesters were carrying Palestinian flags and they chanted slogans in support of Palestinian freedom.

Human rights advocates, local residents, and members of various communities participated in the demonstration. Participants demanded the protection of Palestinian civilians and a ceasefire in Gaza.

During the protest, demonstrators also chanted slogans calling for adherence to international law and the upholding of the fundamental rights of Palestinians.

Protesters said that the world leaders are gathered in New York for the UN General Assembly session therefore effective measures must be taken to resolve the Palestinian issue and bring an end to the ongoing situation in Gaza.

A pro-Israel demonstration also took place on the opposite side of the street; however, the turnout there was low, whereas a large crowd participated in the pro-Palestine demonstration.

A heavy contingent of the New York Police Department was deployed in the area to handle any untoward incidents. Police installed barricades to maintain traffic flow and manage security arrangements during the protest.
