NEWYORK: Pakistani American Skilled Women Organization organized a food pantry in New York on the occasion of International Mother’s Day and Eid-ul-Adha where shawls were given to elderly women and food packages were distributed on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
The event held on Brooklyn’s Ditmas Avenue began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.
Addressing the participants, founder of the Pakistani American Skilled Women Organization Atiya Shahnaz said that on the one hand, we are paying tribute to mothers, while on the other hand, Eid-ul-Adha is also near, so we are also celebrating this joy with our community.
She said that mothers are actually the foundation of strong relationships as they not only build a home but also create a strong society.
President PASWO Shaheen Khokhar said that while maintaining our tradition, we always remember those who are in need, because Eid-ul-Adha teaches us a lesson of sacrifice and selflessness. She said that we are not only distributing ration and other items but also sharing love, respect, hope and goodness.
Other participants emphasized that elderly women are a valuable asset of our society and their respect and honor is the responsibility of all of us. The elderly women also appreciated this initiative and thanked the PASWO organization and expressed their happiness.
On the occasion of Mother’s Day, elderly women were specially provided shawls and gifts were also presented to them. Food packages were also distributed to the low income deserving people, which included milk, other food items and daily necessities.
Later, the birthday of Atiya Shahnaz was also celebrated in which a cake was cut and the participants wished her a happy birthday.
Participants and local people described this activity of the PASWO as a positive example of social welfare and expressed hope that such welfare initiatives would continue in the future.
