WASHINGTON D.C: At 11 th annual Muslim Advocacy Day in Washington D.C, delegations of Muslim students and members of various organizations presented the case of Islamophobia, oppressed Palestinians and immigrants in meetings with members of Congress.

The delegations from the platforms of ICNA, Council for Social Justice and other organizations visited the historic building Capitol Hill and met with members of Congress.

The US Council of Muslim Organizations organized an awareness session titled Policy and Advocacy Training, which began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.

Young students from different states and experts from various fields also participated in the training session.

Speakers from the US Council of Muslim Organizations informed the audience about the proposed anti-Islam legislation. The speakers said that we have to urge lawmakers to withdraw from the Sharia-Free America Caucus.

In the awareness session, the participants were told how this proposed law is anti-Islam and anti-Muslim, an obstacle to religious freedom and a threat to the constitutional protections enjoyed by Muslims.

The speakers said that we have to make American lawmakers realize that they are accountable to the public and that it is not wise to push the country into the fire of war based on anyone’s political desires.

Participants also expressed solidarity with Palestine and carried its flag.

Earlier, the delegation, which came at the invitation of the US Council of Muslim Organizations, met with Ilhan Omar, a Muslim woman member of the US Congress.

The delegation informed about the problems they are facing in the legal and constitutional field. Ilhan Omar said that we have to continue our struggle for our constitutional rights by uniting, which will open the door to success.

In Capitol Hill, the youth got the opportunity to take a study tour of the Congress and Senate buildings, which helped them understand political and constitutional issues. The students described the visit as very useful.

Later, a lecture was given on the rights of immigrants and freedom of expression. The youth were told that among our basic demands, an Israel First agenda and an end to the war against Palestine are among the top priorities.
