Pakistan reaffirms unwavering commitment to UN peacekeeping

NEWYORK: Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to United Nations peacekeeping and policing, underscoring the indispensable role of UN Police in maintaining international peace and security.

The remarks were made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Asim Iftikhar Ahmad while speaking during a UN Security Council briefing on UN Peacekeeping Operations: Police Commissioners.

Highlighting Pakistan’s long-standing contributions to UN peacekeeping, the Ambassador stated that Pakistan has deployed over fifty Formed Police Units to UN peace operations, including missions in Haiti, Darfur, Timor-Leste, and Côte d’Ivoire, among others.

He paid tribute to eleven Pakistani police personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty, and noted that Pakistan currently maintains a Formed Police Unit at rapid deployment readiness, reflecting its continued preparedness to support global peace efforts.
