GEORGETOWN, GUYANA: Guyana police force won the friendly cricket match by defeating New York Police Department police team in a friendly cricket matched played at a Georgetown cricket ground.
A traditional friendly match was played between the New York Police Department delegation from the United States and the Guyana Police Force team.
The match was played on the occasion of the 10 th death anniversary of NYPD’s former Gayana-origin officer Randolph Holder. Randolph Holder was killed in a shooting incident in New York in 2015.
Guyana President Mohammad Irfan Ali also played with his team and not only batted but also dismissed an NYPD player.
The aim of the match was not just to win but to strengthen friendship and relations through sports.
Guyana President Muhammad Irfan said that officers like Randolph Holder are heroes for us and this match is a symbol of our friendship and mutual respect.
Players from both teams enjoyed the match. NYPD police inspector Adeel Rana, who was posted in the Community Affairs Bureau in 2008, laid the foundation of cricket in the NYPD at that time.
The players said that this was not just a cricket match but an example of brotherhood and cooperation between the two police forces.
The Guyana Police Force team batted first. The NYPD team started batting in a defensive position, but the bowlers of the Guyana Police Force took the lead and won.
The cricketers said that they did not come here just to play but to spend time with their Guyanese brothers in memory of their colleague Randolph.
Later, trophies were distributed among the winning team and outstanding players.
