NEWYORK: New York city Mayor Eric Adams and leaders of different religions have united against the tragic incident of violence against a Muslim woman, Shazia Qureshi, in New York due to her religious identity and they have expressed solidarity with the victim. New York city Mayor Eric Adams has made it clear that there is no place for hate in this city.

The assault incident on a Muslim woman, Shazia Qureshi happened at a subway train by a black man who assaulted Shazia after inquiring about her religious identity.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams made it clear at a news conference at City Hall with organizations and leaders of various religions that there is no place for hate in this city, and no leniency will be shown to criminals involved in such hate crimes.

Mayor Eric Adams said that we believe in unity, consensus and religious tolerance and we will not allow such elements to flourish in the city. He said that we are all with the affected woman and her entire family in this difficult time.

Muslim Women’s Liaison Officer Atiya Shahnaz, head of COPO Mohammad Rizvi also attended the press conference. The Arab American Association of New York and others said that attacks on Muslims are not new, and it has been now becoming a serious problem.

Representatives of the Jewish community and other religions also strongly condemned the attack on Shazia Qureshi. The speakers said that targeting people of any religion based on their identity is unacceptable and such incidents cannot divide us.

The participants of the press conference gave the message that New York is a city for all of us, and the heinous intentions of elements who promote hatred will not be allowed to succeed under any circumstances.
