COPO organizes youth care day

NEWYORK: Council of People Organization organized youth care day at New York’s police academy in Queens, which was attended by large number of Muslim youths belonging to different Islamic schools of New York.

The program aimed to provide guidance to youth for their employment, internship and other career opportunities in federal, state and city level organizations.

Various organizations participated in the event, including the FBI, NYPD, (Homeland Security), US Postal Service, US Coast Guard, Department of Housing & Urban Development, NY State Police, Nassau County Police, NYC Fire Department, and Port Authority Police, among others.

COPO head Mohammad Rizvi said that the organization’s goal is to provide guidance and all possible support to the youth of the Muslim American community, especially high school and college students, regarding their future.

He expressed his determination that COPO will continue to guide the youth through opportunities like Youth career day in the future as well.

The event was also attended by the Mayor of New York, Police Commissioner and other important figures, who encouraged the youth and urged them to turn their dreams into reality.

NYC Mayor Adams thanked Mohammad Rizvi and said that he is a true friend of New York and America, and asked him to keep continue the great work he is performing. The Mayor said that he saw the FBI and NYPD explorers and said that this is a wonderful opportunity to think about a career in law enforcement that you can pursue.

NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who participated in the program, said that she would like to thank the COPO and Mohammad Rizvi for organizing the wonderful event.

The commissioner said that the COPO is providing platform for youth especially Muslim and south Asian communities, and that is why this career day has now taken on a special and unique status.

FBI officials also expressed their views on the program and said that we serve all of you and we want to maintain a strong relationship with all of you, because this is the only way we can do our job effectively.

They said that they hope that we can provide some career guidance to youth to some extent, so that after 10, 15, or 20 years from now, they may decide whether they also want to join the FBI, NYPD, or FDNY. Other participants in the ceremony also appreciated this spirit of COPO and encouraged the youth.

Information stalls were set up by various organizations, on which useful information about job opportunities, procedures, and organizations was provided to the youth.

Students of the Islamic school also presented a soulful nasheed on this occasion, while a collective prayer was also offered.

Various prizes were also distributed among the children through a draw at the end of the event. The COPO event was appreciated by various circles of the community, which is being considered a positive step for the Muslim youth.
