CHICAGO: The Consulate General of Pakistan in Chicago organized a reception to celebrate the 85th Pakistan day at the Holiday Inn Oak Brook, Illinois.
The event was attended by more than 300 people, including members of the consular corps, prominent political figures, members of the media, think tanks and Pakistani Americans.
The chief guest of the event was US Congressman Jonathan Jackson. The host of the program was Arshia Hasnain.
Syed Abdanullah recited the holy Quran at the start of ceremony. Consul General Tariq Karim greeted the Pakistani American community on Pakistan Day.
He highlighted the heroic fight for Pakistan and praised the tireless efforts and countless sacrifices of the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders and workers of the Pakistan’smovement.
He also expressed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the legal and legitimate fight for the right of self-determination of the oppressed people of India Illegal Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. He conveyed greetings on behalf of the President, prime minister and foreign minister of Pakistan.
Consul General said that Pakistan has made great progress on many fronts over the past 78 years, overcoming many challenges.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s strategic location, demographic dividend, large market, democratic mindset, wealth of natural and human resources, rapid growth of the tech sector and soft investment laws make it a desirable destination for business and investment.
He also emphasized Pakistan’s attractiveness as a holiday destination, which offers a wide range of attractions to visitors. He said that the administration was making several adjustments to address macroeconomic issues.
The consul general also emphasized Pakistan’s efforts to empower minorities and women. The consul general highlighted the importance of the long-standing friendship between the United States and Pakistan.
He briefed on various topics related to bilateral relations, including the growing volume of trade and the successful operations of American corporations in Pakistan.
Consul General Tariq Karim, who also outlined his main objectives and intentions, said that Pakistan’s relations with the Midwest were strengthening due to increased trade, investment and personal contacts. He added that several Midwest traders carry Pakistani products and Pakistan’s exports have increased.
During his briefing, he discussed the increasing investment from the Midwest in Pakistan, especially in the IT sector.
The consul general emphasized the importance of the Pakistani American community in bridging the divide and advancing the socio-economic development of both countries.
He said that members of the Pakistani American community have not only achieved professional achievements but have also played a significant role in the development of American culture, technology and economy.
In his heartfelt wishes on Pakistan Day, Congressman Jonathan Jackson recognized the importance of Ramadan and the role of the Pakistani American community.
State Representative Diane Blair-Sherlock, Bolingbrook Mayor Basta and DuPage County Sheriff James Mandrike were among the dignitaries and elected officials who spoke at the event.
In a statement sent to the Consul General by the people of Illinois, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias recognized the significance of Pakistan Day.
Many luminaries, including Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Wisconsin State Representative Samba Baldeh, and Congressman Sean Caston, also offered their congratulations.
Among other things, the remarks acknowledged the importance of bilateral relations and the contributions of the Pakistani American community.
The Pakistan day cake was cut by Congressman Jonathan Jackson, Consul General Tariq Karim and his wife.
During a short cultural session, patriotic national songs of Pakistan were sung. After Iftar, traditional Pakistani food was served to the visitors. Later, special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan, its citizens and its community members.
