Pakistani-American community hosts reception in honor of newly elected Muslim Officers Society’s President

NEWYORK: Business and social figures of the Pakistani community, Khurram Khan and Ahsan Chughtai, organized a ceremony in honor of the new president of the Muslim Officers Society of the New York Police Department  Captain Waheed Akhtar at local restaurant, Coney Island Avenue.

The reception began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and event was attended by the community figures and friends.

The newly elected president of the MOS, Captain Waheed Akhtar, said that there was a time when the number of Muslims in the department was negligible, but today there are more than 3,000. He said that transition of the office is a continuation of the journey of development.

It is pertinent to mention that the first Pakistani-origin inspector in the NYPD, Adeel Rana, has been the president of MOS for 12 years.

Outgoing president Adeel Rana said that there was no difference or competition between anyone and the collective interest should always be prioritized.

Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar also attended the reception given in honor of Captain Waheed Akhtar and presented a certificate of appreciation to Captain Waheed Akhtar. She said that Muslim officers in the NYPD were serving this city with full commitment.

Other police officers in the NYPD were also present at the ceremony, who congratulated Captain Waheed Akhtar on getting the new responsibility and assured him of full cooperation.

On this occasion, the hosts of the ceremony, Ahsan Chughtai and Khurram Khan, said that Captain Waheed Akhtar has an excellent character and has a brotherly relationship with everyone.

The ceremony was also attended by political, social and business figures of the community. The speakers said that Pakistani officers have made all Muslims proud by being promoted to high positions.

The journalists, business and social figures participating in the ceremony said that Waheed Akhtar also has the honor of being the first Pakistani captain. They said that unity and the harmony are the path to progress.

Other speakers also spoke and said that Captain Waheed Akhtar’s life is like an open book. He is always useful to everyone.

At the end of the ceremony, community member Asif Baig’s birthday was also celebrated and everyone cut the cake together.
