Islamic Circle of North America New York hosts special reception for new Muslims in America

NEWYORK:  Thousands of people convert to Islam in the United States every year, but some had to leave their families after converting to Islam. To comfort such people over Christmas and New Year, the Muslim community of New York organized a “Revert Conference.” The conference was organized to welcome new Muslims and celebrate their conversion to Islam.

The reception, held in Queens, New York city was attended by a large number of new Muslim Americans, ICNA Center officials, activists, and members of various Muslim communities.

This year, the conference also hosted a graduation ceremony for nine new Muslim Americans, which aimed to make them feel important and included in the Muslim community.

Weekly “New Muslim Classes” are held at ICNA headquarters. The event was moderated by Brother Tim and Sister Ellie, who invited speakers to speak.

Dr. Musa and Sister Alishba explained the purpose of the event and introduced the organization.

ICNA New York President Tariq Rahman congratulated the new Muslims on completing their graduation and gave them advice on how to play their role in society after converting to Islam.

Imam Abdul Aziz delivered the keynote address and highlighted the challenges faced by American Muslims. The new Muslims were awarded certificates and gifts on completing their graduation. Revert classes teacher Khalid Waheed awarded certificates to the students along with Dr. Musa and Imam Abdul Jabbar.

New Muslim Americans shared their stories and emotions after converting to Islam. The second annual Revert Conference was a success, aiming to provide an environment where new Muslims feel accepted and considered themselves a part of this society.
