Diwali celebrated in NYPD

NEWYORK: The Diwali was celebrated in the New York Police Department for the first time with great enthusiasm. NYPD’s Indian Officers Society and Desi Society decorated Diwali celebrations at One Police Plaza.

Police Commissioner Thomas Donlon and First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella also joined the Diwali and participated in the Diwali Puja and Bhajan.

A large number of police officers and their families also attended the event.

Addressing the participants, Police Commissioner Thomas Donlon and First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella congratulated the participants of the Diwali event and said that these lights of Diwali represent love, peace and message of happiness.

On this occasion, a dancing group consisting of youths from the Indian community presented a spectacular dance performance.

The most unique thing in the event was that along with the Hindu community, the Muslim officers not only participated but also appeared as host at the food stalls.

Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar on this occasion said that Diwali is a festival of victory of light over darkness and sharing of joy.

Indian community’s deputy inspector Shabhu Madhu and executive officer Captain Sachi Singh were honored with the awards in the event.

The officers of the Indian community said that the apparent difference in civilization and culture is actually the beauty of different colors which is a means of connecting each other.

The guests participating in the Diwali were served with various types of vegetarian foods.
