COPO, ACMW organize awareness seminar with collaboration of CEC for budget utilization

NEWYORK: The Council of People’s Organization (COPO) and the American Council of Minority Women (ACMW) in collaboration with the Civic Engagement Commission, a sub-section of the city government of New York city, organized an awareness seminar to form opinions on the use of the budget in which the community women and men participated in large numbers.

COPO Chief Operating Officer Asma Batool inquired the participants as under which projects the allocated budget funds should be spent in majority areas of Pakistani community out of New York City’s $112 billion budget.

The participants of the seminar were briefed about the budget, city population, and infrastructure and citizen rights.

ACMW Chairperson Baza Ruhi said that many social and welfare organizations of the community are active and it is necessary that we should work together for better results.

The representatives of the Civic Engagement Commission Pollock and Stanley also expressed their views.

They said that the government’s budget is for the citizens, we want it to be used according to their wishes.

The participants of the seminar also emphasized on the establishment of a shelter home for destitute Muslim women.

Earlier, ACMW and COPO representatives Ahmed Latif and Maria Shahzadi briefed the participants on the process of opinion making and giving suggestions on the utilization of the budget.

The participants of the seminar also gave suggestions through a questionnaire forms which will be sent to the city government for implementation. The participants were also given prizes through a draw.
