Migrant family of eight could get $2200-a-month under NYC Mayor Adam’s debit card scheme

New York: New York City Mayor Eric Adams has defended the recently launched debit card scheme, under which a migrant family of eight could get $2200 per month.

while addressing to a weekly news conference at city hall Mayor Eric Adams clarified that the cards, which are pre-paid debit cards – ‘not an American Express card’  are intended to be used exclusively for food and baby supplies for the migrants.

Mayor said that there is no place for immigrants in the city anymore, people have no choice except sleeping on the streets.

Responding to reporters’ questions about the introduction of a debit card scheme for asylum seekers, Mayor Eric Adams assured that this scheme will save taxpayers money and prevent food waste.” .

Under this scheme, each person among immigrants will get 345 dollars per month, a family of three people will get 932 dollars per month, a family of four people with two children under the age of seventeen years will get 12500 dollars per month while a family consisting of 8 members will get 2200 dollars per month for the purchase of essential items.

500 migrants will be included in this scheme initially and the scheme will save the city government 7.2 million dollars annually, he added.
