An NYPD school safety agent at a Queens elementary school admitted to a hospital with coronavirus symptoms, media reports.
The female agent, whose name was not immediately known, was admitted to a hospital in Queens Saturday afternoon and tested for the pandemic virus, according to sources.
The woman not at work in PS 306, which is located on 89th Avenue in Woodhaven, since her husband tested positive for the virus on March 4. She later developed symptoms and went to the hospital, the sources. Her current condition was not immediately known.
School officials said Saturday they were in the process of cleaning the school.
The head of the School Safety Agent’s union called on Mayor Bill de Blasio to close the school system despite the agent not contracting the virus at the school.
“They are vulnerable, and they are at risk,” union President Greg Floyd stated to media. “As is everyone who works in city schools. We can’t afford to wait any longer. The longer we wait the worse this is going to get.”
Floyd claims authorities did not provided masks, gloves and hand sanitizer to agents.
