Serious crime rate 20 percent increases over the first two months of the year compared to 2019, according to NYPD statistics released on Monday.

There was a 35 percent jump in robberies citywide, to 2,499 this year from 1,853 in 2019, and a 64 percent leap in stolen cars.

Shootings where at least one person was injured went up 19 percent over the first two months of the year after a nearly 30 percent jump in January compared to last year. Burglaries, by more than 21 percent, and grand larcenies, by more than 16 percent.

On the plus side, the five districts reduces crime rate specially in murder and rape cases for the second straight month, with 45 murders reported so far in 2020 compared to 54 over the same period last year a nearly 17 percent decrease. Rapes dropped from 296 to 257, a 13 percent dip over 2019.

NYPD spirit last month blamed the overall January crime spike, in large part, on the state’s controversial new bail reform law, which went into effect on New Year’s Day.

The law prohibits judges from setting bail for most misbehavior and some nonviolent offenses, which has freed career criminals to strike again.

We know what this is, a police source stated on Monday. This is from non-proactive policing and the new bail reforms. These guys are continuously getting out and be re-offenders without any consequences or repercussions for their actions.

The assessment was censured by two city councilmen last month who accused police of creating “false narratives” about the bail reform law.

But according to police and court records, suspects including for crimes that are up this year continue to be freed without bail.

Alleged serial burglar Otto Friedman, 25, who is charged with pulling off six Manhattan burglaries in Lower Manhattan last month, was released without bail on Sunday, according to court records.

Trevor McGovern, 36, who was charged with robbery and grand larceny for allegedly stealing $8,000 from his girlfriend after a Valentine’s Day spat, walked out of court without bail last week.

Also last week a 40-year-old Staten Island man, Francis Grady, was released without bail after being charged with offense, robbery for an alleged bank heist at a TD Bank branch in the district.

If you are going to continue to put bad guys on the street and let them know they can get away with it, they are going to commit crimes, said another NYPD source.

Whether it’s a big crime or a small crime, it doesn’t matter. It’s all they know.

According to the statistics released on Monday, New York’s Supreme did make more arrests this year through the end of February, with 7,242 busts for serious crimes, an 11 percent rise over last year’s 6,517.

One blatant deviation was rape arrests, which dipped by 32 percent, from 172 to 117, so far in 2020.

The first two months of the year also saw jumps in minor crimes, the NYPD stats show nearly 19 percent increase in petty larceny and 6 percent increase in crime particularly assault cases.
